Rhino's Family Friendship Classics is presented by Billboard, but it's hard to see why -- only a handful of these ten songs were hits (in these versions, that is). Nevertheless, each of the songs have two things in common -- they were all featured in films and they're all about friendship. That's not much of a foundation for an entire compilation, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that it doesn't quite hold together. Instead, it has isolated moments, from Hayley Mills' "Let's Get Together" to Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" to Andrew Gold's "Thank You for Being a Friend." It doesn't quite make up for substituting Michelle Nicastro's "Somewhere Out There" for the original Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram hit or for the inclusion of the execrable Martin Short and James Belushi duet "Looks Like I Got Me a Friend," but there are enough highlights to make Family Friendship Classics entertaining for kids.
