1993's Fabulous 50s, Vol. 2 is a disappointing oldies collection with a promising track listing that, unfortunately, features just one original recording out of its 12 tracks. The original -- Fabian's "Tiger" -- is still a fun bit of Elvis-lite rock, and it sounds especially good compared to the weak re-recordings that surround it. Flat, glossy versions of Bobby Freeman's "Do You Wanna Dance?," the Mystics' "Hushabye," and the Coasters' "Charlie Brown" lack the impact and nostalgia of the original renditions of these songs. This collection really can't be recommended to anyone, especially since far better '50s pop compilations have come out since its release.
