The first of two EPs issued in connection with the album A Hard Day's Night, this one drew from the soundtrack side of the LP. The paired romantic ballads "If I Fell" and "And I Love Her," representing John and Paul, respectively, are here along with two of the better rockers, "I Should Have Known Better" and "Tell Me Why." It was rapidly becoming clear to all concerned, however, that many consumers in the U.K. were starting to get into the habit of buying the LPs whence songs such as this came. It was yet another effort by EMI to resell the material again, four months after the LP's issue (perhaps the label was concerned that a five-month-old album wouldn't be a big Christmas seller -- the Beatles were always blowing that deadline).
