For her fifth studio album, and her first for EMI Italy, Dolcenera experimented with a new compositional approach, building her songs from drum'n'bass patterns rather than the piano. The result is an album of contemporary pop/electronica, influenced by bands like MGMT and Phoenix. Dolcenera wrote all the material, sang, arranged, produced, and performed on a variety of instruments (including drums, for the first time), while Alex Trecarichi and Roberto Vernetti were in charge of programming and mixing -- the latter also co-produced half of the album. Evoluzione della Specie features the smash singles "Il Sole di Domenica" and "L'Amore è un Gioco," while a digital version adds the bonus track "Come Un'aquila."
