It's doubtful that Red Mitchell ever made a disappointing recording. This session was taped in Mitchell's Stockholm apartment, and the down home feeling is readily apparent. Youngsters Lars Jansson on piano and Joakim Milder on tenor sax play with spirit, even if they probably aren't in Mitchell's league as soloists. Each of the artists contributed an original to the date; Mitchell's bizarre narrative intro to "Talking" is a scream, followed by his warm vocal on this sincere ballad. The cream of the standards include a sparkling "On Green Dolphin Street," featuring the sidemen at their best, plus a swinging version of "There Is No Greater Love."
