Other than a couple of records in 1977 for Zim and Red, this Concord release was pianist James Williams' recording debut as a leader. At the time he was halfway through his four-year stint with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and he uses two of Blakey's sidemen (tenor saxophonist Bill Pierce and bassist Dennis Irwin) on the fine hard bop-oriented quartet program with drummer Billy Hart. Williams performs a couple of his originals plus six standards (including "That's All," "It Could Happen to You" and "Please Send Me Someone to Love") in swinging and creative fashion.
