This set contains the complete winter sessions of the Bill Evans Trio in New York, the first on December 15, 1958 with Evans on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums (released on LP as Everybody Digs Bill Evans: the entire LP is presented here), and the second on January 19, 1959 with Paul Chambers replacing Sam Jones on bass. It makes for a compelling portrait of Evans before he really took off in the jazz world and shortly before he began his ground-breaking work with Miles Davis on the seminal Kind of Blue album later in 1959. Call it a valuable historical document of a specific moment in time.
