This very interesting double LP from the English Spotlite label contains many of Charlie Parker's lesser-known recordings from 1945. Bird is featured with trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie not only on the five songs recorded by blues singer Rubberlegs Williams but backing trombonist Trummy Young's vocals (real rarities), three numbers featuring Sarah Vaughan and on a session with guitarist/jokester Slim Gaillard; "Slim's Jam" is a classic of its kind. In addition Parker participates on a half-hour broadcast by Cootie Williams' orchestra (although he only solos on the lone sextet number "Floogie Boo") and on four hot titles with pianist Sir Charles Thompson, trumpeter Buck Clayton and tenor-saxophonist Dexter Gordon.
