On this string session, Etta Jones alternates between sounding like late-period Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. The dozen songs are mostly ballads including such numbers as "Unchained Melody," "You Don't Know What Love Is," "You Better Go Now" and "All My Life." Although the liner notes talk about how interesting Oliver Nelson's writing is for the string section, in reality the violins greatly water down the jazz content and, with Jones sticking to soulful melody statements, this CD reissue would not be considered one of the highpoints of her career.
