AllMusic Review by

Essential '80s: 1980-1984 is a fine mid-line collection, boasting 14 number one hits from the early '80s. None of these songs are rare, but it's nice to have Yes' "Owner of a Lonely Heart," the J. Geils Band's "Centerfold," Rick Springfield's "Jessie's Girl," Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon," Hall & Oates' "Kiss on My List," John Waite's "Missing You," Toni Basil's "Mickey," Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes" and Christopher Cross' "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)," among others, on one disc.
