Chillwave song sculptor Neon Indian followed his exceptional 2009 debut, Psychic Chasms, with a more emotionally complex follow-up in the form of 2011's Era Extraña. With a rich palette of DayGlow textures, open-ended melodies, and underwater beats going into the album's construction, the material on Era Extraña was perfect remix fodder, and this five-track EP brings together reworkings of some of the stronger songs by artists both expected and unlikely. Along with a particularly hissy remake of "The Blindside Kiss" by Actress and an airy pop take on "Hex Girlfriend" by Twin Shadow, the EP also includes more abstract fare by Optimo and Patten and -- most interestingly -- a remarkably submerged and demonic-sounding remix of "Halogen" by dark noise legend Boyd Rice.
