One of the finest Dixieland-oriented cornetists of the past few decades, Ernie Carson is in excellent form leading his regular group of the period. On what was only his second album as a leader, Carson has many hot solos on a good-time set that mixes together a few standard jams with such rarely played tunes as "Storybook Ball," "Mammy O'Mine" and "Moving Picture Ball." The sidemen include the great stride pianist Don Ewell, trombonist Skip Diringer, clarinetist Herman Foretich and banjoist Bill Rutan, who takes a few vocals. This somewhat obscure set is easily recommended for Dixieland fans.
