Fine Tunes' Encyclopedia of Jazz: The Gold Collection is a pretty good sampling of 14 jazz classics, including cuts by Louis Armstrong ("When the Saints Go Marchin' In"), Count Basie ("One O'Clock Jump"), Sidney Bechet ("Summertime"), Cab Calloway ("Minnie the Moocher"), Nat King Cole Trio ("Sweet Georgia Brown"), Tommy Dorsey ("Night and Day"), Duke Ellington ("Take the 'A' Train"), Benny Goodman ("Stompin' at the Savoy"), Billie Holiday ("Fine and Mellow"), Glenn Miller ("In the Mood") and Fats Waller ("Dinah"). These live versions aren't necessarily the ones that are the most familiar, but they're pretty good versions and help make the disc an enjoyable purchase for the budget-minded.
