This is contemporary instrumental music at its best, uniting jazz virtuosity with melodic compositions. Jan Stevens wrote all of the songs, provides keyboard and percussion programming, and plays guitars, flute, mandolin, sax, marimba and a few other instruments. While the arrangements are full, the absence of a drum set gives the recording a lighter feel which provides ample space for Paul Horn, Dean Parks, Abraham Laboriel, David Grisman, percussionist Luis Conte and co-producer/guitarist Terry Wollman....Emerald Blue is a strong debut from Jan Stevens, who knows how to share his expertise with an audience bound to grow far and wide.
