Taking five years in between releases in the Legendary Performer series, producer Joan Deary searched the archives thoroughly for unreleased material. The result is an album made up almost entirely of previously unissued songs and versions. The format of the series remains: the album follows a roughly chronological sequence, starting with a Sun Records outtake (in this case, an alternate version of "When It Rains, It Really Pours") and featuring interview excerpts. There are live tracks, soundtrack songs, and a couple of tapes found at Presley's home, and the real find is a version of "One Night" with the original, more risque lyrics. Fans and collectors no doubt rejoiced, but Volume 4 did not chart, and there was no Volume 5.
