Kingfly's Elevatorup is an indie pop record that has a solid sound figured out, but lacks the overall songwriting skills to make it work. They have the talent, the production is perfect for this genre, but somewhere within their jangly sound they managed to lose the hooks necessary to keep the listener interested. In all fairness, this album also displays a very young band that still has a long time to develop their songwriting. But between their Matchbox 20-esque ballads and R.E.M.-style rockers, they manage to only create moods, not songs, and that is what ultimately sinks Elevatorup. Given time, this could be a solid outfit, but that journey has not reached its destination quite yet.
