On the basis of this record alone, guitarist David Acker deserves to be well known in the jazz world. He shows a lot of versatility both in his repertoire and the styles he plays, he swings, and he has his own sound, whether playing straight-ahead or a bit funky or rockish. Joined by either Kermit Driscoll or Paul Sukalow on bass and drummer Kirk Driscoll, Acker performs such numbers as "Secret Love," "You Don't Know Me," "If I Were a Bell," "Crazy," and five of his own originals with fresh ideas and plenty of little surprises. This is one of those records that rewards repeated listenings, for David Acker says a great deal in subtle ways.
