AllMusic Review by

The fifth installment in DJ/production mastermind LTJ Bukem's series of compilations is much like the four that came before it: a solid, if hardly groundbreaking, mixture of styles designed to introduce newcomers to the Good Looking label roster. Just as uneven as most modern techno compilations, the album moves from weak, repetitive yawners like Big Bud's droning "Spiritual" to inspired cuts like Paul Hunter's infectious-as-hell blaxploitation funk throwdown, "The Warning," seemingly at random. The sounds are all over the map, with old school hip-hop-influenced material from Rebirth of Conscience, jazzy breakbeats courtesy of Vincent, and even 21st century lounge funk from Makoto. Ultimately, though, Earth 5 is no better or worse than any other electronic music compilation you've heard, as unexceptional as it is eclectic.
