This obscure LP has the seven songs recorded by The Original Dixieland Jazz Band for Aeolian (music that has also been reissued on Retrieval) and seven early selections from 1921-22 by Ladd's Black Aces (which was another name for the original Memphis Five). The ODJB material is excellent for the era and highlighted by "Tiger Rag" and "Look at 'Em Doing It Now" but Ladd's Black Aces from five years later sounds much more modern. The frontline of trumpeter Phil Napoleon, trombonist Miff Mole and clarinetist Jimmy Lytell were both expert ensemble players and fine soloists as they show on their well-rounded program. This will be a difficult LP to find, though.
