This is one of the lesser-known Earl Hines Chiaroscuro albums and has not yet been reissued on CD. Although singer Maxine Sullivan gets co-billing, the live date actually is actually comprised of five piano solos and five duets by the two. Hines was in prime form during this era and he comes up with continually fresh variations of such swing standards as "If I Had You," "I've Got the World on a String" and "Confessin'." Sullivan's voice is fine (among her numbers are "Almost Like Being in Love" and "They All Laughed") but it is the instrumentals that take honors. Worth searching for.
