Driving In the Rain 3 AM: Songs to Get Lost With is a compilation of like-minded rock tunes -- most a little melancholy -- touched by psychedelic pop and not-quite-alternative country, but close. The collection boasts no less than the Soft Boys Kimberley Rew on the glimmering power pop number "Restless Ocean," and then displays some seriously moody rock songs from the likes of Lauren Agnelli and Dave Rave (from the somber "Crying Lullabye" to the upbeat "Every Dog Has Its Day In The Rain"). There's downtempo folk (Kevin Kane's "Confidential"), jazzy guitar ("Technicolor Shadows"), and -- probably the highlight of the whole record -- Ralph's unique country-meets-wandering-beat tunes "Early Morning Cold Tax,i" and "Goodbye Jack. Kerouac." It's not an immediately catchy or must-have album by any means; just a solid compilation that's extremely rewarding whether as late-night driving tunes or cocktail party music.
