Drive is the debut release from the Liverpool duo consisting of vocalist Nikky Williams and bassist Ronni O'Keefe (O'Keefe additionally wrote and produced much of the record). The Spirits cover the same ground as bands like the Cranberries, melodic rock ranging from sweet to more aggressive with lyrics that are serviceable (but only occasionally inspired), sung dreamily by a female vocalist. Williams gives a good performance, capable of belting a bit or gliding over the melodies. "The Cross" is a catchy, chugging track with chiming guitars, detailing, and reveling in, being happily miserable. "Truth Teller" takes the tempo up a notch, making an impression. Drive is a catchy effort, but its failure to show much more in the way of personality results in most of the songs fading from memory once the next track starts.
