AllMusic Review by

Yet another of Rhino's Dr. Demento collections, Dr. Demento Gooses Mother delivers what its somewhat convoluted title suggests -- a collection of quirky takes and updates on Mother Goose's venerable nursery rhymes. From Nineteen Ten Fruitgum Company's unbearably cute bubblegum version of "Simon Says" to Count Basie & His Orchestra's clever "London Bridge Is Falling Down," the album gathers a surprising amount of creative and fun versions of these timeworn songs. Buckwheat Zydeco's "Skip to My Blues," Maria Muldaur's "The Story Book Ball," and Taj Mahal's "Funky Bluesy ABC" are some of the other standouts on the album, which also includes performances by Hank Thompson, Johnny Standley, and Trout Fishing in America. With its eclectic yet familiar sound, Dr. Demento Gooses Mother's lighthearted appeal reaches children of all ages.
