AllMusic Review by

While Down at the Sky-Vue Drive-In might not match the heights of Texas Top Hand and Rolling Stone from Texas, it is still an excellent set of direct, no-nonsense progressive country from the remarkably talented Don Walser. Whether they're new songs or covers of classics like "Cherokee Maiden" and "Please Help Me I'm Falling," the songs are first-rate, and the lean production from Ray Benson brings out the best. Among the highlights on the album are his two duets with Mandy Barnett ("I'm Leaving It Up to You," "Hearts of Stone") and "Rose Marie," a surprisingly successful collaboration with the Kronos Quartet.
