Swedish garage-glam journeyman Stevie Klasson has been around long enough to have been a sideman to Johnny Thunders and played in Hanoi Rocks, and his slavish devotion to the kind of glittery gutter-blues that those artists played continues. DON’T SHOOT THE MESSENGER is studded with St. Mark’s Place grit, despite Klasson’s relocation to Sweden. “Hand Me Downs” staggers like Keith Richards and the X-Pensive Winos, while rootsy stomper “Lucky” plays like a junkie on a hayride, complete with warm organ and hard luck tales. Klasson’s seen it all, but his world-weary love of rock remains winningly unshaken.
