Though associated with bebop and studio work, the remarkable harmonica player Toots Thielemans has always been a very flexible player. Accompanied by a modern rhythm section comprised of pianist Fred Hersch, bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Joey Baron, Thielemans performs the romantic "Do Not Leave Me," a 19½-minute exploration of "Blue and Green" and "All Blues," a concise "Stardust," "Autumn Leaves," Ivan Lins' "Velas" and Toots' biggest hit "Bluesette" which features the enthusiastic audience whistling along. More than a decade later, this joyful set still sounds fresh; fortunately the music is readily available on CD.
