While ignored commercially, this was a very respectable piece of swamp pop revealing that Roy Head was capable of convincingly updating his white R&B sound into the early '70s. Produced by Steve Cropper, it falls somewhere between the vibe of Van Morrison's early-'70s albums and Tony Joe White; indeed, Head covers Morrison's "You Got the Power" and White's "Dismal Prisoner 0613" (on which White himself guests on guitar). Whether getting into horn rock, quasi-funk, or blue-eyed soul, Head's vocals are consistently fine and assured, complemented by suitably rootsy Southern rock/R&B arrangements.
