The one thing one can say about Julian Cope is that he keeps his fans guessing. On October 4-5, Cope presented music and readings from his books about the Norse god Odin at the British Museum. The two nights were a huge success and this CD served as part of the program available from the show. While is would appear that this teeters on the border of Spinal Tap territory, Cope has the talent and ability to carry it off. Joined by longtime partners Thighpaulsandra and Donald Ross Skinner, the CD is comprised of music about Odin as well as readings from Cope's book, Let Me Speak to the Driver. The music ranges from heavy metal to ambient, especially when accompanied by Japanese heavy metal band Karuna Khyal (on the track "Odes to Wan [Parts 1&2]"). Lyrically this album is heavy going but never boring. The CD also includes Vachel Liindsay reading his poem "I Want to go Wandering."
