As critical revisionism continues, more and more favorable views about the disco revolution are issued, many from people who denounced it when the music was at its peak. Nevertheless, compilations like this ten-track set are becoming more popular, as those who missed it the first time around are trying to find out what it was like. These are huge hits, some of them, like "Y.M.C.A." and "I Will Survive, " defining works, while others such as "Fly, Robin, Fly" and "Boogie Oogie Oogie" being novelty items then and now. But they do show both disco's allure (innocent lyrics, catchy arrangements) and its distasteful attributes (too much reliance on hooks, silliness, and repetition).
