Respect is due to Hed Kandi for consistency. Somehow through the past several years they managed to maintain the same level of quality and committment to releasing deep house music without compromise. This is no small feat in the electronic music compilation market. However, Disco Kandi is exactly what you get on Disco Kandi, Vol. 5.3, as there are no unexpected surprises to be found anywhere within the two-CD set. It's a evenly paced, anonymously compiled session full of filtered house loops inspired by classic disco. Even disco/soul legend Linda Clifford makes a guest appearance courtesy of Prospect Park's "Spinnin'." Yet while the inside is evenly tempered and perfect for a house party when you can't afford a DJ, there isn't much else noteworthy about the tracks included inside that sets them apart from other installments in the Disco Kandi series. The packaging and design is breathtaking (par for the course for the label), but for house fanatics seeking a little more than deep house with disco grooves, this might not be entirely satisfying either.
