Dikr and madih are ceremonies and songs of the Sufi Brotherhoods of Sudan. The dikr is a liturgical amalgam of song and recital and a promoter of religious ecstasy. Madih are religious songs accompanied by percussion. Three sides of this double-album set, recorded and annotated by Professor Artur Simon, are devoted to more or less lengthy documentation of the various stages of several ceremonies. The fourth contains four madih songs.
