Different Tastes Of Honey Review

by JT Griffith

Tosca continues its pattern of mid-album cycle remix projects with 2002's Different Tastes of Honey. This project includes 13 remixes of "Honey" from 1999's Suzuki, bookended by a piano intro and outro. Richard Dorfmeister has recruited a talented corp of remixers, including Andy Spence, Azoia, Faze Action, Funky LowLives, Gernot Ebenlechner, Glyn Biggabush, J├╝rgen Driemal, Markus Kienzl, Massi, Michael Baumann, Oliver Kieser, Only Child, Shelter AV, and Thomas Velten. The result sounds like a brand new album, with each dub version sounding highly unique. Personal taste will most definitely dictate which tracks are favorites, depending on one's preference for specific electronica subgenres. The up-tempo, jazzy Koop-style Faze Action dub; the funky, robotic Biggabush dub; and the immaculate stoned groovy Supatone 1 dub are exceptional standout tracks. This is a concept record that flows so well it obscures the fact that each track is based on the same song. Highly recommended for downtempo enthusiasts. Warning: Do not operate heavy machinery while listening.
