A loose pick-up band consisting of members of the Mavericks, Sixpence None the Richer, Wilco, and Cheap Trick, Swag produces pleasant if not planet-shattering pop. The art of Winston Smith graces this lovely vinyl 10," which serves four tunes later featured on Swag's first full-length, Catch-All. The opener, "Lone," jangles along well enough; "Different Girl" goes for a fab ambience; "When She Awoke" also cascades over talented solo artist Doug Powell's delicious Curiouser; and strings help "Louise" (of course at least one girl-name title) recover from a crummy beginning. Swag doesn't scale the heights of its influences, but proven talent mimicking pop gods doesn't disappoint.
