AllMusic Review by

Deep Soul, Vol. 2 is a good budget-priced collection that contains 13 soul hits from the '70s. Nothing here is "deep soul" -- there are no punchy stax horns, Southern grooves or shouted vocals. Everything is smooth in the Philly-soul and Hi Records tradition, and as long as you know that coming into the collection, you won't be disappointed. Among the highlights on the collection are Curtis Mayfield's "Future Shock," Donny Hathaway's "The Ghetto," Isaac Hayes' "Joy, Pt. 1," Latimore's "Let's Straighten It Out," the Dells' "Stay in My Corner," Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes' "I Miss You," Tavares' "Check It Out," Friends of Distinction's "Going in Circles," Bloodstone's "Outside Woman" and Charles Wright's "Do Your Thing."
