Columbia River's Deep in the Heart of Texas is a curious and enjoyable little set of songs that are by artists who hail from the Lone Star State. This is an assemblage of singing cowboys and the bona fide creator and king of Western swing, Bob Wills (and one of Texas's most famous residents), crooning, boogying, and harmonizing about life in the American West. Among the finest moments here are Tex Ritter's "Blood on the Saddle," the Sons of the Pioneers' "Sierra Nevada," Wills' "Lone Star Rag," and Roy Rogers' "Cowboy Night Herd Song." This set is very short, but it's budget priced and there isn't a weak tune in the bunch.
