This CD actually contains the musical highlights to three of the Marx brothers' movies: A Day at the Races, Go West, and The Big Store. The transfers are all clean, given the ages of the source material, and nicely edited, so that you get a full picture of the musical highlights of all three movies. Each has its virtues, though Go West's material is probably the weakest, while The Big Store (usually thought of as the weakest of their MGM films) has the most elaborate musical sections, culminating with the "Tenement Symphony." Tony Martin dominates the vocals in that body of material, but one gets a fair amount of Groucho singing, Chico chiming in from time to time, and all of Harpo's featured instrumental spots are included. There are no notes to speak of, but the material is fairly self-explanatory and delightful all the way through -- not as much fun as watching the movies, but a great distillation of some key elements of all three.
