AllMusic Review by

Das Lied Ist Aus is a rather haphazard collection of the smokey-voiced siren's seductive interpretations. Some songs seemed to be plucked directly from the films themselves (such as a very bad take of one of her signature songs, "Illusions," which seems to start halfway through the song and is thus renamed as "A Touch of Paradise"). However, this collection includes the full versions of some of her other signature songs, such as "You Go to My Head" and the studio version of Morocco's "Quand l'Amour Meurt." The disc's highlights are selections from her legendary 1950s live performances, with tear-inducing renditions of "Lili Marlene" and "Das Lied Ist Aus," among others. There is also a nine-and-a-half minute "live broadcast performance" between Marlene Dietrich and Bing Crosby (with plenty of nostalgic banter between the two), culminating in a beautiful performance of "La Vie En Rose." All in all, a rather random collection which nonetheless features several beautiful highlights and hidden treasures.
