With the success of nearly a dozen best-selling dance mix CDs, Louie DeVito has become one of the few NYC DJs to establish himself as a household name among a wide cross-section of non-dance music fans. One of the secrets to his success has been to employ more accessible and well-known tracks along with music from talented unknowns. On DANCE DIVAS II, he splits the difference between his populist choices and the more obscure tracks favored by many of his contemporaries.
A few mainstream acts appear here (Deborah Cox, Dannii Minogue), but the bulk of the tracks come from divas-in-waiting such as Becky Baeling and Donna Delory. What really elevates this release above the endless number of other remix CDs, however, is that all the tunes here are extremely pop-oriented. This is a mix for the masses, replete with hooks galore and songs that retain just enough pop sheen to please even those who never set foot on the dance floor.
