Hip-hop producer/remixer extraordinaire Damizza's WHERE I WANNA BE assembles some impressive talent from the rap and R&B camps in service of an album whose eclecticism and accessibility in no way diminishes its credibility. There's plenty of straight-up, tongue-twisting rapping going on here, courtesy of Ja Rule, Krayzie Bone, and others. However, there's an equal amount of R&B and pop intertwined in these tracks. Shade Sheist and Damon Sharpe (among others) lend their expressive, R&B-oriented vocal talents to the proceedings, sometimes interacting with the rappers, sometimes reigning over exclusively melodic tracks. Damizza's sonic palette is a varied one, incorporating everything from acoustic guitar to funk to Depeche Mode samples, his vision aimed toward a genre-hopping, across-the-board appeal.
