Curves Freedom Fitness Music, Vol. 1 combines worship and workouts by presenting energetic versions of new and old inspirational songs. The album features over an hour's worth of songs at a 140 bpm tempo, which is fast enough for most aerobic workouts. Ideally, the album would also include slightly slower songs at the beginning and end to allow for warming up and cooling down, but the collection does provide enough musical variety to overlook this minor problem. The songs' upbeat arrangements borrow from house, dance-pop and trance, lending them a contemporary feel. Highlights include Marcia Ware's "This Little Light of Mine," Lisa Bevill's "Hold On," Bonnie Keen's "Breaking Through" and Stephen Marshall's "Praise the Lord." While it's not a perfect collection, Curves Freedom Fitness Music, Vol. 1 has a unique concept and fills the needs of anyone who wants to listen to high-energy CCM during their workouts.
