AllMusic Review by

A nice collection of indigenous Cuban music, ranging from small, acoustic folk groups to full-blown orchestras, all showing off the wide range of the native music. Kicking off with Grupo Raison's version of "Guajira Guantanamera," the collection also includes selections from Abelardo Barroso ("El Manisero"), Caridad Hierrezuelo ("Babalu"), Turquino ("Son Para Los Rumeros"), Orquesta América ("Rico Vacilon" and "La Engañadora"), Bebo Valdes ("Siboney"), Orquesta Aragón ("Cachita") and Tito Gomez con La Orquesta Riverside ("Frenesi"). Even if you're a newcomer to Cuban music (or are no more familiar with the style than what you've heard from Ricky Ricardo on old reruns of I Love Lucy), you'll still be familiar with many of the melodies here and be swept away by the energy and romance of the rest of it.
