This out-of-print anthology is the type of CD that drives collectors crazy. The selections come from various Blue Note releases of the late 1980s and early 1990s, so many jazz fans will have all or most of these titles. Outstanding tracks include contributions by Geri Allen, Joey Calderazzo, Don Pullen, and Charlie Haden. But Blue Note threw a monkey wrench into the works; both Benny Green's trio arrangement of Horace Silver's "Me and My Baby" and the Gonzalo Rubalcaba Trio's turbo-charged take of Sonny Rollins' "Airegin" were previously unreleased and failed to appear on subsequent Blue Note CDs by either artist. Adding the failure to provide recording dates or composer credits makes this one extremely frustrating anthology that will still appeal to completists who want everything by Benny Green and/or Gonzalo Rubalcaba.
