Altoist Marco Eneidi and tenor saxophonist Glenn Spearman in 1995 led the Creative Music Orchestra, a very crowded 21-piece orchestra also including two violins, two basses, two drummers/percussionists, two trumpets, three other tenors, two altos, three clarinets, two guitars, and one piano. On this CD they record the six-part "American Jungle Suite." Four of the movements are by Eneidi, one is by Spearman, and one piece is borrowed from Cecil Taylor. The music is unremittingly atonal, often quite dense and ferocious. The musicians (which mix together a few veterans with many younger players) handle the difficult music quite well although all but the most open-eared jazz collectors might find some of the more intense passages almost unlistenable. This set does grow in interest with each listen.
