AllMusic Review by

Hitting the open road has long been both a figurative and literal escape clause in country music, affording protagonists the chance to walk, run or drive away from troubles that seem to have no other solution. This brief ten-song set has several classics of this subgenre, including Roger Miller's debonair "King of the Road," Dave Dudley's long-haul trucker anthem "Six Days on the Road" and Merle Haggard's outlaw ballad "I'm a Lonesome Fugitive," but unfortunately none are the original single versions but are instead "new stereo recordings by the original artists." It may not make a huge difference in how these songs sound, but it is bothersome, a bit like buying a vintage car and then finding out it just rolled off the assembly line.
