Country Christmas: We Wish You a Country Christmas is a collection of some of country's biggest stars of the '50s, '60s, and '70s performing holiday favorites. The album actually starts a little slow, with some average contributions from George Jones, Jimmy Dean, and others. But from Jim Nabors' rendition of "O Holy Night" on, the album kicks into gear. His clear baritone is the first of many highlights, as other stars like Charlie Rich and Marty Robbins keep up the quality. But the album is stolen by Tammy Wynette and Tanya Tucker, who hand in excellent renditions of "Joy to the World" and "Away in a Manger," respectively. It is their contributions specifically that make this album as good as it is; the men do just fine but the women add the right emotional touch to the collection. Country fans should give this album a chance; there is really a lot to like, especially on the second half.
