On their second full-length effort, Petoskey, Michigan's Famous Last Words return with Council of the Dead, a concept album about a group of souls meeting in the land of the dead as they wait to learn what their ultimate fate will be. To go along with an ever-shifting narrative, the album finds the band shifting gears musically, changing the tone of the album to suit the different points of view they're trying to represent. With so many bands striving for homogeneity, it's nice to see a band whose members aren't afraid to try something different, and fans of the genre looking for something daring and new should definitely check this one out.
