Highly ornamented religious and secular poetical chants come from a local group of singers ("E Voce Di U Cumune" -- "The Voice of the Community"), most of whom do not read music, yet sing remarkably complex traditional styles with a raw, warm energy. Harmonies are often in ancient parallel fifths, in natural non-"trained" modal tuning, at times sliding into place with emotion. Sometimes several voices ornament together and a glorious chord emerges from the midst. This is truly moving and honest music.
