Los Zultannes Del Norte may seem--with their matching cowboy hats and jackets--like merely another norteno outfit, but the quintet's lively playing will cast aside any inclination to overlook them. Like the best norteno, the Zultannes's sound is energetic, yet full of romantic yearning, highlighted by soaring melodies and close-knit harmonies. There are weepers here for sure (as the "tragedias" of the title indicates), so listeners should have an extra beer on hand to catch the tears that will surely roll. Of course, an old pal is also nice to have around too for belting out the choruses of the more upbeat numbers.
