Santiago Jimenez Jr. has long labored in the obscuring shadow cast by his famous father Dom Santiago Sr. and elder brother Flaco. Corazon de Piedra doesn't try to compete, but quietly and assuredly offers an intimate, backporch glimpse of one of Austin's masters of old-time traditional Tex-Mex Conjunto music. This vintage working class form originated historically from a mingling of German and Czech settlers' waltzes and polkas with Mexican corrido song stories. The perfect disc for fans of Los Lobos who would enjoy exploring those roots somewhat deeper.
