While jazz fanatics will find its very nature frustrating, Cool Talkin' Verve is an enjoyable sampler of ten cool jazz and lounge-pop tracks Verve released during the '60s, targeted at alternative-rock fans raised on the cocktail jazz revival. Though it is designed to appeal to a kitsch audience, the music on the album is anything but campy, featuring excellent contributions from Kenny Burrell & Jimmy Smith, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley & John Coltrane, and Quincy Jones.
